Today is the first day of the rest of your lives [ opening post ]

WHO: EVERYONE. NPCs will be around to actively engage if you so desire.
WHAT: Sleepers wake and begin to figure out just what, exactly, they are supposed to do with themselves. tl;dr: REACTION POST for new characters to get out and mingle.
WHERE: Everywhere. Mostly the living quarters, but really: anywhere you want.
WHEN: The first week, April 1st through April 7th.
WARNINGS: Travis Touchdown (Ryan LeCourt) has quite a mouth on him.
NOTES: This is a serious game, guys. WE’RE SUPER SRS HERE. This may be a lie.

Shimmering blue blanketed the underground city as the light reflected off the sapphires in the ceiling. It cast its eerie glow, almost mimicking the effect of light on water without the sort of freeing peace one might feel with the soft ocean waves. Figuring out how deep down the city was located was near impossible when the air was obviously heated to something approaching comfortable, and nothing seemed to echo too far past the quiet hum of the city.

Workers made their way down the street, every one with a Sleeper in tow. Something that would have been unheard of only a few days ago, now more likely than one would think. They intended to start slow, but considering how many others were still in cryo, this was a laidback pace.

Let it never be said that Gabriel did what was in his best interest. In fact, he was currently sitting on a nearby outcrop of rock/wall (he wasn't sure what it was meant to be, except it was flanking a building and possibly being used as a natural divider), kicking his legs and watching the bat swoop.

"What I wouldn't give for some popcorn," he murmured, snapping his fingers absently without lifting his hand where he was leaning on it. Nothing happened. Not that he was surprised. He kept trying, naturally, but nothing ever happened. He'd start worrying when he started getting used to not using it for the tiniest thing (like turning on the lights).

Bit concerning, really, but since he was decently sure this was all cooked up by Dad--come on, He had created Gabriel; what other kind of afterlife-slash-second chance would He cook up for him?--the archangel was willing to bide his time. Sort of. For now.

He didn't have a microphone, but he still managed to make his voice carry. Only, it was Anselmo's voice. Mostly. (There were minor differences, of course, almost impossible to detect without an excellent ear or equipment. Gabriel could hear them because he could tell how imperfect the imitation was--but give him a break, will you, he's only human nowadays. Apparently. For the moment.) "Yes, Ryan, get the Hell off that thing! Give someone else a go!"

"But that one's got the red eyes and the shiny silver finish on its fur!" Gabriel shouted back, still using Anselmo's voice. "It should go to someone with style, not a punk like you!"

Gabriel grinned, waited the appropriate beat, and then added, "Someone like me."

What, stirring up trouble among the higher-ups? Never.

"Why not? There's no one else to have intelligent conversation with!" Gabriel shouted in response without missing a beat, jocularity clear in his--Anselmo's--tones.

Hey, he'd been having a sucky year. If he could wrangle some fun out of whatever dimension Dad's thrown him in now, he's not going to pass it up!

"You know what they say about people who doth protest too much!" Gabriel grinned to himself and leaned casually back on his perch. When Delilah appeared he just looked her over and asked cheerfully, "Who says he needs to find out?"

Abruptly he pushed himself upright, swinging his legs so he was straddling the outcrop and leaning forward on his hands, one finger half-raising in a gesture of silence or censure. "C'mon, you can't tell me it's not funny."

"You need to learn the meaning of the word." Gabriel prodded the air with his finger and then absently snapped them. He looked a little disgruntled when nothing happened--he'd been thinking an Alice-In-Wonderland costume with a giant white rabbit might be appropriate; or maybe just sending her into Alice in Wonderland, period--but the expression only lasted a moment before giving way to innocence.

"Although I'd be very curious to hear what suggestions you might have. He seemed so boring on the network; all rules and no fun. I just couldn't resist."

library

[personal profile] tactical_alert 2012-04-02 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Malcolm had to admit, the inclusion of a library in the cave system did take him be delightful surprise. The most important thing for now, he figured, was to gather information the old fashioned way. Reading history. If nothing else, it would at least provide him with some entertainment, but hopefully he'd be able to understand this world--assuming the information was accurate. He couldn't be sure of that, but he'd roll with said assumption for now. And reading at the terminals meant he wasn't stuck in his quarters. Nice enough, he supposed, but something about it made him feel more trapped than anywhere else.

hi Malcolm, have another Star boy

For the last three days, Jonas had spent quite a bit of time in the library himself. For one, it was one of the places he felt comfortable, the most at home, and if his exile on Earth (in the dream anyway) had taught him anything, it was to not discount that feeling.

Jonas had already started a notebook, though finding one had been a chore, to record his findings in. He had to admit, he was a bit disappointed how digitized the place was, with only a few shelves of hardcopy books. Though, the man who come to share the library today seemed to be right at home with them.

"Finding anything interesting?" He asked with a polite smile as he moved to sit at a nearby terminal.

Engrossed in his readings, Malcolm gave a slight jump at a--fellow Sleeper, he assumed, coming up near and speaking to him. He stared for a moment, just a second, to quickly assess the situation, then shrugged. "A great deal, actually. But that's only if one finds such topics as history and sociology interesting."

[personal profile] littlealienguy 2012-04-05 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Jonas smile turned sheepish, having not wanted to startle him. And there was certainly enough about this situation to startle someone without the Sleepers startling each other. "Well, it's definitely a place to start to figure this place out, don't you think? Usually the best way to figure out the present lies in the past."

[personal profile] tactical_alert 2012-04-05 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
It helped that Malcolm was fond of the topic of history, though he would still be here even if that hadn't been the case. "I'm merely trying to figure out where we are. What sort of world this is, where people might hail from and the forces at work. To be uninformed in this situation puts one at a staggering disadvantage."
littlealienguy: (head cocked)

[personal profile] littlealienguy 2012-04-05 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
"You think the Dreams were real, don't you?" Jonas asked, cocking his head curiously. He didn't say it judgmentally, as he himself was still leaning in that direction, no matter what the Watchers had told them. But it was good to know who among the Sleepers also thought so. "Or do you mean hail from as in places here, outside this cave?"
tactical_alert: (mmhm totally not at all distracted)

[personal profile] tactical_alert 2012-04-05 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Both." It didn't seem terribly dangerous to reveal that. Of course he thought the dreams were real. Didn't everyone?
littlealienguy: (36)

[personal profile] littlealienguy 2012-04-05 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
It was better to be safe then sorry. Jonas was an academic, no matter his forays into battle with SG-1 and he wanted to do more research before he got into trouble. "Same. Though, if the records about the places outside are to be believed, we should share an accent." It was still strange, whenever he dared play the voice recorder, to hear himself with a British (or Central) accent.
tactical_alert: (I do so hope we aren't all about to die)

[personal profile] tactical_alert 2012-04-05 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Malcolm gave a small shrug. "Accents change. I'm glad it sounds like I'm more or less the same in that regard." Oh. That might have revealed a bit much. Just roll with it. "Though at the same time, still disturbing. I don't even know anything about who I'm supposed to be here, yet."
littlealienguy: (black and white)

[personal profile] littlealienguy 2012-04-15 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
"I suppose. Though it would help if I remembered having the accent period. I'm sure it's much less confusing to have always had it." Jonas had accused of being strange before but never because of how he spoke. But he just shrugged it off. "Neither do I. I don't think any of us do. Though, I think I was a researcher, if what I found in my room was true. Did you find anything interesting?"
tactical_alert: (considering)

[personal profile] tactical_alert 2012-04-16 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Depends on your definition of interesting." Naturally, video of himself talking to someone he didn't know, in a room he didn't know, dealing with antiquated weaponry he was mostly familiar with from museums than something he'd ever handled directly was certainly interesting, but it wasn't anything he'd tell a stranger.

"Someone somewhere must know about these other lives of ours. Files stored somewhere." But he'd deal with that later.

So, about as interesting as Jonas' audio recorder of notes for a project he'd never heard of before. But he could understand the man not wanting to share. "Anything at this point. Anything that tells us about this place and how we got here." It was carefully worded statement, that could be taken as they had gotten to this point in time, or from the worlds they were told were dreams, because right now, Jonas was looking for evidence of both.

"We can hope. If this society was like any other, then it's only a matter of looking." If there was anything Jonas had learned from Daniel Jackson, it was that the story was always there, one just had to figure out how it was written and where. "Besides, I'd doubt a society as evolved as this wouldn't have records. How else would they expect us to acclimate ourselves when we woke up?"
